Over The Counter Drugs For Acne Treatment

Acne is a big problem for many adolescents and even some adults. It lowers self-esteem as it gives one an overall bad appearance of the skin, which is the most important visible part of the human body. Acne tends to be painful as it swells. The swelling gets worse if it is not treated accurately and at the right time. The best way to handle the problem is to seek acne treatment that will reduce oil production, speed up skin turnover cells, fight bacterial infection and reduce the inflammation. This can be done by seeking treatment from a dermatologist. In some cases, one may opt to go for over the counter drugs as seeking medical help may be a last option.

Over the counter drugs that act as acne treatment are lotions which when used will dry up the excess oil, kill bacteria as well as promote sloughing of the dead skin cells. Most of the over the counter lotions tend to be mild as they contain benzyl peroxide, sulfur, resorcinol and salicylic acid as their active ingredients. Of course, these drugs are mostly good for mild forms of acne. For very serious cases of acne, they may not be applicable, or may do away with the problem for a while before the problem resurfaces all over again.

When using the over the counter drugs for acne treatment, there have been cases of some mild side effects. The most common that many users of the OTC have experienced when trying out Acne treatment is a mild rash. Most of these usually disappear with continued use. However, some people experience an increased intensity of the rash which may in the long run lead to stoppage of use. In some cases, people have been known to experience some allergy with the use of the OTC lotions.
